John Aaron Lewis was an outstanding pianist, composer and arranger, best known as the founder and musical director of the Modern Jazz Quartet. In his compositions he incorporated in an unique manner classical elements to jazz. He balanced his compositions and improvisations masterly and only after then, it entered in to jazz. In 1995 a unique Gala concert was held at Marians Jazzroom with the Modern Jazz Quartet.
